What A Movie!

English  Français  Español

One Sunday afternoon, at three Oclock, when I was 23 or 24 years old, I made my way to the movie theater Rex, in order to see the French production "Du rififi chez les hommes". As a bright sun had just dazzled my sight, the projection room of the Rex seemed by contrast quite dark. And since I didn't want absolutely to miss the beginning of the movie, I hasten to find a seat, by myself, without waiting for the help of an usher with a flashlight.

Misfortune. Thinking that I was taking a corridor, I crashed into a box, bumped violently my foot against a seat, and made an abrupt landing on a big lady who screamed with emotion and fear. The noise of my fall and the yell of the spectator didn't go unnoticed and produced grumbles and a certain commotion in the projection room.

Fortunately, an usher came immediately to the rescue, with his flashlight. He helped me to rise on my feet, and took me to a seat, asking me kindly if I had nothing broken.

Thank you, I answered. Everything is alright.

I was lying. Not only I had the impression that two or three of my ribs were broken, but also my ego was badly bruised, because I was convinced that the whole audience was staring at this poor unlucky man who had just made a fool of himself.
