PRINTS

I can get bored as a part-time SAHM. Instead of staring at each other, we try to get Xi En to do more engaging activities. At this age, Xi En loves anything new, anything colourful – simply curious.

We got him to do PRINTS! Did this artwork on a hot afternoon when playing at the playground can induce heat stroke. Smile with tongue out

“Ingredients” for PRINTS:

1) Some old newspapers and a large piece of “manjong paper” (basically a white piece of paper):

2) Washable, Non-toxic paints suitable for finger painting. (Can be found at Popular Bookshops or Artfriend). I realised yellow isn’t a good colour. Red, Orange, Pink come out brighter and nicer. Smile

3) Some old blocks/shaped/moulds – we took out Xi En’s old toys. I wanted to use some hard vegetables to cut out the shapes. My mum said those are our dinner! Oh well… these works too. Smile

Prints3

4) A very excited toddler. shorts off, old T-shirt on. I wanted to use my friend’s idea of tying a plastic-bag-inspired-bib on his neck. Xi En refuses to be part of such innovative dress sense. Smile with tongue out

And da ta! off we go:

We get PRINTS! Smile

Prints7

Oh wait! That’s not all. My super-amazing mum collected the PRINTS and created these end products with Xi En:

Try this on a hot afternoon like me or on a rainy day when you can’t go out. At least 45 mins of printing fun to occupy the energetic toddler. Smile

N.B: Next Monday is the last day to win some Kanten Clay for your kiddos! Check it out now. Smile

Xi En’s 2nd birthday celebrations

Xi En turned 2 on 31st July 2011.

He’s such a big boy now. Compared to his 1st birthday celebration, he is more aware of the celebration and that it’s a fun occasion where he receives presents and sing birthday songs. Smile

This year we did small scale family celebrations as Xi En was just discharged from the hospital 2 weeks back. We had 2 days of gathering at home and Xi En loved it! Smile

That’s his birthday cake. He loves Mickey (calls him Mi-Mi); so we got him one such cake from Bengawan Solo. They have lovely Disney Characters cakes:

He loved the birthday song and clapped along with it:

Cutting the cake by himself is not a mean feat anymore! Smile

bday11

Loves receiving gifts and opening them (no holding back!)

bday6

Goes “wah!!!!!” whenever he opened one gift. Expression = priceless!

Loved all the gifts from Ye Ye, Ma Ma, Gu Ma/Jiong, Gong Gong, Po Po, Xiao Jiu, MQ Jie Jie!

Po Po, being an ex-childcare teacher, knows exactly what he will like at this stage and bought a set of play dough for him. Now Xi En is rolling, kneading and cutting everyday! Smile

RSV Infection

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) which causes infection of the lungs and breathing passages was what got Xi En hospitalized 3 weeks back.

It is a common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia. Apparently many kids are infected with RSV at least once by the time they are 2 years old. Those who are at higher risk are premature infants with congenital heart or chronic lung disease.

Xi En started with a normal runny nose, cough and low-grade fever. It escalated to wheezing, loss in appetite and spikes of fever after a day. The third day he was breathless and coughing non-stop with a built-up of phlegm. We rushed him to the hospital A&E in the morning and were chastened by doctor why we didn’t bring him in any earlier. Sad smile (Did we know better?)

This is the first time we didn’t need to wait to see a doctor. They came almost rushing to us! We actually didn’t realise the severity of Xi En’s condition till then.

The doctors were anxious that he was born a preemie with some lungs issue (not chronic, thank God). They wanted to monitor him and ensure his situation was stable before letting him home. We camped for 4 days 3 night at KKH in the end. It’s a different form of stayacation huh except you are forced to wake up 2-3 hourly for medication! We were glad to be “released” home anyway.

It’s always worrying for all parents (and grandparents) when the little ones fall ill.  Thank God Xi En has so far recovered from RSV infection and we pray this is the last we see of it. Smile
