The motorcycle is the most common transportation used in Puerto Plata by those who do not own a
car. Everybody moves around on a motorcycle: children, old people, pregnant women, young mothers
with a baby on their arm, disabled persons etc...

Once, I saw on one of these small vehicles a young woman who apparently had just left the hospital
where she was attended. She was wearing a pink nightgown. With one arm raised vertically, she was
holding a bottle of serum, still connected to her vein. Without a doubt tired of the hospital,
perhaps she had obtained from her doctor the authorization to return home, and continue there
her convalescence.

On the other hand, I can say that the motorcyclist of Puerto Plata is master in the art of
transporting any bulky load on his small vehicle: mattress, ladder, armchair, big gas cylinder,
cement bags, and that's not all. |

But the chief attraction of these unusual transports is indisputably the achievement realized once
by an audacious mason. This daring man had just bought six long rods of iron and wanted to carry
this burden up to his building site, at all costs. Well seated at the back of a motorcycle, he was
holding his iron rods on the two sides of the vehicle, and the strollers were enjoying the sight of
these beautiful bunches of sparks that the rods were throwing out, scraping the roadway.
