24/7 online grocery shopping is Therapeutic!

With a really hectic schedule these few weeks ever since my helper decided to go emotional on us and left for home (another story by itself); we pretty much had to shoulder on more chores.

And it didn’t help that both boys decided to fall sick around the same time plus I had a big project launch on-going at work. It was just busy busy busy everyday from morning till night.

I am just so glad that I am living in today’s today. The age of internet shopping! With really little time to spare in the day time, my favourite time to shop is at night; when everyone is all asleep.

The night-owl in me scan through the popular websites, select the most user-friendly and trustworthy ones and BUY AWAY! My husband always wonder why there are parcels delivered to our house when I didn’t have time to shop. Muahhahhaha…. I didn’t dare to show him the credit card bills!

2 days back, I had a go at online grocery shopping!

I always enjoyed going to the supermarkets. Everywhere in the world; my favourite and must-go places are the grocery shops. Somehow, to me, grocery-shopping is therapeutic! Anyone feels the same out there?

But lately, time constraints drove me to the online stores and it gave me the best chance to try out Redmart.com – a new online establishment I saw last year. Cut the chase: the easy-to-navigate menus + large friendly SALE banner gave me a pleasant first-time online grocery shopping experience. I completed my purchase within 30 mins. Took slightly longer as I was peering through the “new” section. Open-mouthed smile

My few cents worth of thoughts:

Prices: I believed most mummies are price sensitive when it comes to purchasing grocery items. For the “aunties” (like me), I can remember most of normal rack prices at the regular supermarket. If it cost a hell-lot more than usual, I am unlikely to add to my cart unless I desperately need the item. If it is just a few cents of difference, I will close my eyes and click ADD! I didn’t do a detailed price comparison on all items, but would say by large 80% of the items offered on Redmart.com are quite competitively priced. Tip: check out their Sale section to see what’s on sale so you can grab those first! Smile

Quality: Not sure as the goods are not delivered yet. But I don’t expect the quality to be any different from if I just head out to buy them myself. Currently they don’t offer fresh produces; so quality of dry stuff should meet the standard. But an area for improvement would be to provide expiry dates for all the food items. From my experience shopping on international sites (iherb.com for that matter); all expiry dates are provided clearly so consumers can plan their purchase and usage in a more timely fashion.

Payment: Using paypal or credit card. Secured enough for me.

Range of products: Decent selection; more than 3 to 4 brands for most products. You won’t get everything and every brands; but safe to say most popular and familiar brands are in there. And if I am not wrong, they are trying to add more product choices to their list.

Delivery: Earliest available date for my delivery is 5 days (including Sat and Sun). Honestly, didn’t expect it to be 5 days. Maybe I have to adjust my expectations. Unless I head out to buy them myself, I won’t get the grocery in that next instant. But then again, I would have thought 3 to 4 days will be more acceptable. Nonetheless, one key helpful point is that I won’t need to lug back sacks of rice, mountain of diapers and lorries of milk powder! No prizes for guessing what I bought for this shopping spree at Redmart!

Overall, I am glad there is such an online grocer which opens 24/7 for busy folks like me. Compared to other individual standing supermarkets which offer online shopping as well, I like it that Redmart offers free delivery if you purchase above $75 (Fairprice and Cold Storage charges $7 delivery fee). It’s not too difficult to hit amount if you are buying for a family. For first-timer like me, I purchased my groceries from Redmart with a coupon code from an online couponing portal – Flipit- which collects special promo codes and sales from Singapore and around the world. It gave me 15% off for first-time purchaser! Yeah! – any little savings help a long way.

Do you have a favourite online shopping site? Do share them with me; I think I just got started and hooked on!

Disclaimer: This post and shopping experience is inspired by Flipit which prompted me to check out online shopping codes for more cost savings before I check-out my carts! All opinions (and shopping trophies) are writer’s.

He likes to move it move it! (With Huggies® Ultra Pants)

<< Keen to try the new Huggies? Have a sample set sent to you by requesting for it here on Huggies website! >>

Rolling, crawling, cruising, walking and running!

All the above are the key milestones of all our little ones. And it is the delight of all mummies ( and of course – daddies, grandmas, grandpas and etc) to witness all these tiny but so-significant steps.

I often read about “K’s first tummy time” or “D’s first steps!” or “J’s first hands-off!” on my Facebook newsfeed and these are proud moments many parents love to share with their friends and relatives.

I am no different from the masses – totally go ga-ga over Eizac’s first roll, first independent step and first dance!

He likes to move’ it move’ it! Eizac proved to be similar as his older brother –  growing to be an active unstoppable toddler!

With that, he was “upgraded” to pull-up diaper pants at an earlier stage as it was much easier to dress him up when he became more mobile. Recently, Huggies sent us some of their newly launched Korea-imported pull-up pants (Huggies® Ultra Pants) to try out. Honestly I was apprehensive on how “innovative” diaper pants can be. But we were sold after trying it out!

Huggies 1

Major differences which set Huggies® Ultra Pants apart from other brands we tried before:

1) Easy Open Sides

This is THE THING for me! I have not came across any pull up pants with such tapes which are designed to be pulled on like underwear and taken off like a diaper. i.e. you won’t need to fumble with tearing off the sides when your little one does a big one in pull-up pants. That had happened to me many times before where yucky poo gets on the little one’s legs and even hands while we try to change him out of pull-up pants.

With Huggies “refastenable” Easy Open Sides, the Huggies® Ultra Pants actually comes with “add in “Easy Open Sides with refastenable tapes that has a low peel strength and high sheer strength. The design and shape of the hook on the pants is easier to peel it down than across, which also would make it harder for the child to open himself or herself.  Cleaning up is a breeze and adjustment for a better fit is just but a tape away!

The design team behind this made it such that the hook material is not easily ripped off by our little ones and also prevent it from constant popping open. Yet it is just a one-step peel-off when you need to change the diaper.
The design and shape of the Easy Open Sides is made to be peeled downwards (as shown in the photo above) rather than side way to prevent curious fingers from ripping it off themselves! Active movements from my toddler withstood the test and the sides stayed close despite him running, kneeling, crawling around. And to test it further, the tapes maintained its’ usability even after I peel it on and off a few time. I dare say this innovation is the best for any range of pull-up pants I have come across thus far!

2) Made for Movement

Interestingly, on the onset Huggies® Ultra Pants look like any other pull-up pants. But it is actually a slimmer and flexible design which allows Eizac to move freely and yet it fits snugly. The stretchy waistband and sides adjust according to his active movement and doesn’t give way or “rolled-up” (as with some other brands I experienced before).

Huggies® Ultra Pants also come in separate designs for boys and girls simply because we are made differently. Smile  Sizes start from M so your little mobile one can try this out at  an earlier stage. No girl’s version photos here because I don’t have a baby girl. But you can check out the photos on Huggies website.

3) Leakage protection Band

No mummy likes a leaking diaper. Especially when she is all dressed up! Huggies® Ultra Pants comes with a double layered leakage protect band around the legs which guard leaks from the sides and yet provides a comfortable fit. Eizac had used brands which left deep red marks on the sides due to poor design/material; even though he doesn’t have thunder thighs!

4) Keep dry for up to 12 hours

Another score in my books! Because I totally dislike changing diapers at night! With a groggy mind and sleep-deprived body, my preference is not to change any diapers in the middle of the night. With Huggies’s new slim absorbent core technology, it boasts of a long lasting absorbency which helps to keep the little one dry overnight. Even better, it is not bulky after long hours of usage; thus allowing ease of movement. This is extremely helpful if you are out for long hours or travelling overseas. Have you seen babies with “drooping-down” diapers due to the heavy usage? Eizac had such episodes before and he looked like he is dragging an extra lump of fats below his legs!

Also, It is definitely comforting to know that Huggies® Ultra Pants are made breathable and clinically proven to help prevent diaper rash.

5) Wetness Indicator

Of course any good diaper still needs to be change. It’s always helpful to have a wetness indicator which turns from yellow to blue so you won’t need to guess! This is especially good for first time parents in my opinion. I recalled when I was a first-time mummy, I had little clue when to change the diaper! Experienced parents might laugh at that; but with new parents – anything that gives a clue helps. Smile

Overall, I am very happy with the new Huggies Ultra Pants as it had exceeded my expectations. I think my baby is equally satisfied too.

Fun Night at Disney on Ice (Treasure Trove)

Media Invite

It was our first time at Disney on Ice!

And the verdict: we were totally mesmerised! or at least I was! The performers are just fabulous! To maintain a smile while executing figure skating and look glamorous while in thick costumes and heavy shoes, I take my hats off them. The effort is definitely 100%. The producers added small personal touches such as getting some kids to sit in the teapot and have a spin around the rink (Alice in the wonderland) and having a boy light up lantern with Rapunzel and Prince.

Thanks to the good people at Disney on Ice, we had lovely front seats and caught the skating actions up close.

Would strongly recommend that you (the young at heart!) and your young ones head down to catch this show! Xi En is 5 years old this year and I think that’s about the right starting age to kind-of understand and enjoy the show. The older ones will definitely love the colourful costumes, fireworks and Mickey waving at them! Smile

My favorites of the night: Simba (The Lion King) Act and the finale!

Majestic animal costumes and the loving scene between the 2 main leads in Simba won my votes!

And the finale Act with the various Disney couples – just so fairytale! They live happily ever after! Smile

If you haven’t bought your tickets, you can still get them at: Sportshub website. There are still 1 more show later today at 730pm and 3 more shows each on Sat and Sun.

Some tips if you are going over the weekend:

1) Go early. It’s crowded at Kallang Leisure Mall. Everyone will be trying to grab a bite; so if you plan to have something to eat, do go real early. Otherwise eat before going (strongly advised).

2) On event days, the car park rates are increased! So try to  head down early to park at the slightly less expensive charged carpark at Kallang Leisure or open carpark lots nearby.

3) Bring some biscuits/snacks/drinks for the children as there is a short intermission. Or you can purchase popcorn/snacks on sale at the premise. Bring money; they are slightly pricier.

4) Some your children a few Youtube clips before going down. A good hype to create excitement and a prelude so the younger ones will have a rough idea what skating is about.

Lastly, enjoy and have fun as a family! A great family outing without burning too big a hole in the pocket! Smile
